Panthers Shoot 275 to Take Lead at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Ever member of Georgia State's starting line-up shot par or better as the Panthers jumped to the top of the leaderboard following a 13-under 275 at the Furman Intercollegiate on Saturday. Georgia State will be looking to win its third-straight title at Furman on Sunday and second tournament win of the year.

Sophomore Max Herrmann led the charge with a 6-under 66, making eight birdies during the second round. He sits tied for fifth at 6-under entering the final round.

Junior Nathan Mallonee also shot in the 60s, adding a 4-under 68 that included seven birdies to move to 2-under thru 36 holes and tied for 19th.

After shooting the low round of the tournament, Georgia State sits at 16-under, four strokes ahead of Harvard with 18 holes to play. The Panthers round of 275 is tied for the sixth-lowest round in program history.

“As well as we played, we still left some shots on the course,” head coach Joe Inman said. “With that said, I am extremely proud of the way we are playing the last few weeks. Everyone has worked hard to get better and if we continue on this pace, the sky will be the limit for this team in May.”

Sophomore Alexander Herrmann added a 2-under 70 to move into a tie for 15th at 3-under. Senior JJ Grey, ranked No. 87 by GolfStat added a 1-under 71 and is now 4-under and tied for 10th. Freshman Nick Budd added an even par 72 and is 1-over, tied for 35th.

Five members of the team also competed as individuals. James Kyles shot 74 on Saturday and is tied for 70th at 6-over, while Sean Murphy also shot 74 and is tied for 79th. Nathan Williams shot 74 in the second round and is tied for 88th at 8-over, while Sam Asbury shot 74 and is tied for 94th. Hayden Poole shot 80 on Saturday and is 13-over and alone in 105th.

The Panthers lead Harvard, which sits at 12-under, by four strokes. Akron and host Furman are tied for third at 10-under, with USC Upstate rounding out the top five at 6-under par.

USC Upstate's Ryan Cornfield shot a 64 on Saturday to lead the 125-player field at 10-under. Harvard's Rohan Ramnath sits second at 9-under, with Wofford's Andrew Novak and Gardner-Webb's Aaron Thomas tied for third at 7-under. Max Herrmann is tied with Harvard's Robert Deng for fifth at 6-under.

Georgia State will be paired with Harvard, Akron and Furman for a 10 a.m., shotgun start on Sunday. Live scoring can be found at GolfStat.com.

Following the event, Georgia State will return to the course April 4-5 for the Old Waverly Collegiate in West Point, Miss. It will serve as the final regular season event of the year.
