What You Need to Know:
* Georgia State shot a final round 9-under 275 to finish tied for eighth of 24 teams at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic on Sunday.
* Junior Alex Herrmann led the Panthers with a final round 67 to finish tied for 44th.
* Sophomore Nick Budd added a final round 69. He has now shot in the 60s in six of his last seven rounds.
LAHAINA, Hawai'i – The Georgia State men's golf team tied for the fourth-lowest round of the day, a 9-under 275, to finish tied for eighth on Sunday at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. The Panthers moved up three spots in the 24-team field, finishing at 2-over par.
Junior Alex Herrmann led the Panthers on the final day with a 4-under 67, finishing with six birdies, including five on the front nine. He finished the week 3-over par and tied for 44th.
Following a 2-under 69, senior Nathan Mallonee finished as the low member of the team for the week, tied for 19th at 3-under par.
“Extremely proud of the way we finished,” head coach Joe Inman said. “This team is starting to show me the fight, determination and grit that we will need to make a run to a conference championship in the spring. Each day this week they learned from their mistakes and today nearly played a flawless round of golf.”
Despite making just a pair of birdies on Sunday, sophomore Nick Budd shot a final round 69 to finish the tournament at 2-over par and tied for 41st. Budd, who won the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate with three rounds in the 60s last week, has now shot in the 60s in six of his last seven rounds.
Junior Max Herrmann added a 1-under 70 for the Panthers to finish the week at even par and tied for 30th.
Freshman Egill Gunnarsson rounded out the line-up with a 1-over 72 to tie for 102nd at 12-over par. Gunnarsson finished strong by making birdies on three of his final four holes.
No. 24 Clemson used an impressive 20-under 264 to jump three spots and take the team title at 26-under par. No. 15 Georgia finished second at 25-under par, followed by No. 13 LSU in third at 24-under. No. 7 Oklahoma finished fourth at 18-under par, with No. 39 South Carolina rounding out the top five at 12-under par. A total of eight teams ranked in the latest GolfStat Top 50 were in the field this week.
Clemson's Doc Redman, ranked No. 83 in the country, shot a final round 64 to earn a two-stroke win at 15-under par for the week. LSU's Sam Burns, ranked No. 7, finished second at 13-under par, followed by Georgia's Greyson Sigg in third at 12-under par. Oklahoma's Blaine Hale and North Florida's Travis Trace tied for fourth at 11-under par.
Georgia State has concluded the five tournament fall season and will return to action in the spring, Feb. 20-21, at the Mobile Intercollegiate hosted by Sun Belt foe South Alabama.
