Panthers Finish Fifth at AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic

DULUTH, Ga. – Led by a final round 4-under 68 from sophomore Nick Budd, Georgia State shot a 1-under 287 on Tuesday to finish fifth at the sixth annual AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club.

The Panthers finished the 54-hole event at 7-under par as senior Nathan Mallonee and junior Max Herrmann led Georgia State by tying for 16th at 1-under par.

Budd made six birdies en route to his final round total, finishing tied for 28th at 1-over par for the two-day event.

No. 25 Ole Miss cruised to the tournament title, shooting an event-record 33-under par to win by 15 strokes. Defending champion Lipscomb finished second at 18-under par, followed by Troy in third at 17-under par. All three top teams shot 281 on Tuesday. South Florida finished fourth at 16-under par, followed by the Panthers at 7-under in fifth.

Ole Miss' Braden Thornberry, ranked No. 43 in the country, finished with a 6-under 66 to set a tournament individual record at 18-under par to earn an eight-stroke win. South Florida's Jimmy Jones finished second at 10-under par, while Lipscomb's Eric Ansett and Troy's Clay Vannoy tied for third at 7-under. Middle Tennessee's Ilari Saulo and Ole Miss' Noah West tied for fifth at 6-under par.

“Congratulations to Ole Miss and Braden Thornberry on playing some incredible golf this week,” head coach Joe Inman said. “We had another great event at Berkeley Hills. I would like to thank all of the wonderful sponsors and individuals who have made this such a great event that continues to grow every year.

“Our guys had some nice moments this week, but we just need to work on consistency to get better. I don't think we are far off and I believe we can use this event as a springboard to the final two tournaments of the fall.”

Mallonee shot a final round even par 72 to finish at 1-under par, while Max Herrmann shot a 1-over 73 to tie with Mallonee.

Junior Alex Herrmann shot a final round 4-over 76 to finished tied for 28th at 1-over par, while freshman Egill Gunnarsson rounded out the line-up shooting 74 to finish tied for 58th at 9-over par.

Freshman Josh Edgar, competing as an individual, shot a final round 76 to finish tied for 51st at 6-over par, while sophomore Nathan Williams, also competing as an individual, shot 78 to finish tied for 58th at 9-over par.

Georgia State will return to the course for the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Oct. 30-31, at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., in the fourth of five fall tournaments for the Panthers.
