* Sophomore Alexander Herrmann shot rounds of 73 and 69 to stand in fourth-place at The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island on Friday.
* Georgia State shot rounds of 299 and 303 on day one of the 54-hole event.
* The Panthers will conclude the tournament on Saturday teeing off at 8 a.m. ET off hole No. 10.
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Sophomore Alexander Herrmann shot 2-under par on day one of The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island to stand in fourth-place after 36 holes on Friday. Georgia State, playing in its first event of the season, stands 10th with 18 holes to play.
Georgia State shot rounds of 299 and 303 on day one with four freshman in the line-up as teams played six individuals and counted the top four scores in each round.
After an opening round 73 that included four birdies, Herrmann added three birdies and an eagle in the afternoon to stand five strokes off the lead held by Cincinnati's Jared O'Kelley who shot an afternoon 5-under 67 to tie for the lowest round in tournament history. Only five golfers in the field of 81 stand under par after 36 holes.
Junior Nathan Mallonee enters the final round of play 4-over and tied for 17th following rounds of 75 and 73.
After an opening round 72, junior J.J. Grey shot 78 in the afternoon to stand at 6-over and tied for 25th with 18 holes to play.
Freshman Nick Budd, making his collegiate debut, shot rounds of 75 and 76 and is tied for 35 at 7-over, while redshirt-freshman James Kyles shot 79-76 and is 11-over tied for 54th.
Redshirt-freshman Sean Murphy shot rounds of 82 and 78 to stand tied for 72nd at 16-over par, while freshman Nathan Williams shot 77-84 and is alone in 76th.
Host College of Charleston stands 2-over par following rounds of 291-287 to hold a four-stroke lead entering the final round. Cincinnati stands second at 6-over par following back-to-back rounds of 291, while No. 48 Georgia Southern is third at 7-over. No. 29 UAB and Troy are tied for fourth at 12-over.
Troy's Cam Norman and College of Charleston's William Rainey are tied for second at 4-under, three strokes back of O'Kelley. Herrmann stands fourth at 2-under, followed by Georgia Southern's Cody O'Toole in fifth at 1-under.
The final round on Saturday will begin at 8 a.m. for the Panthers off hole No. 10. Georgia State will be playing with Akron and Lamar. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.
The Ocean Course hosted the 2012 PGA Championship as well as the 1991 Ryder Cup, one of the most remembered events in golf history that became known as the “War on the Shore.” The course is playing to a par-72, 7,115-yard layout for the 12-team field.
Following this week's tournament, the Panthers will return to action at the Sun Belt Conference Preview Sept. 26-27 at The Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla.
