GK Greyson Walldorff Earns Sun Belt Accolade

Georgia State's Greyson Walldorff has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.  The freshman redshirt goalkeeper stepped up huge at end of Sunday's game to make two saves in the final five minutes in picking up his first collegiate win in goal.

Walldorff had a key save at 4:30 (85:30), then saw team score game-winning goal and made his final crucial save with 1:11 left (88:49) to secure the road win. He finished that win with 4 saves. In the opening game on Friday, the first of his collegiate career, he made 5 saves. Walldorff finished the two-match weekend with 9 saves (.750) despite slick wet fields.

“I am pleased for Greyson to have so much success in his first weekend of collegiate action,” head coach Brett Surrency said.  “He put in a lot of work over the summer to come back a better player and so far we are seeing those results on the field.”

Georgia State (1-1) plays its home opener on Thursday evening at the GSU Soccer Complex. Mercer and GSU will battle for the 48th time in a long-running series that the Panthers lead 28-16-3. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
