* Georgia State (8-12) beat Appalachian State 5-2 Sunday in Johnson City, Tenn.
* The Panthers won the doubles point and got wins in Flights 1, 3, 4 and 5.
* Georgia State has two more matches this season, including Senior Day against Georgia Southern on April 10 at Piedmont Park.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Georgia State's men's tennis team won the doubles point and four singles matches Sunday in Johnson City, Tenn. to take down Appalachian State 5-2 in a neutral-site meeting between the two Sun Belt schools.
Coming off a 5-2 loss to No. 63 ETSU on Saturday, the Panthers earned a win over Appalachian State to improve to 8-12 on the season and drop the Mountaineers to 8-11. GSU and App St. split doubles Nos. 2 and 3, but the Panthers collected the point with Sofiane Chevallier and Zack Kennedy's 8-6 win at No. 1. Freshmen Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou won 8-2 at No. 2 to move to 6-3 at the second spot this spring.
Georgia State needed three wins in singles to clinch, but ended up getting four. The Panthers' Jannis Koeke beat Oliver Casey 6-3, 6-2 in the top match. Koeke leads the team in dual wins with 11, all of which have come at No. 1. The Mountaineers won at No. 2, but Acuna won his second in a row at the third flight and Andrukhou did the same in three sets at No. 4. Chevallier polished off the win with a straight-set victory at No. 5.
Georgia State has only two matches to go in the 2015 season. The Panthers host Georgia Southern April 10 at Piedmont Park for Senior Day before traveling to North Carolina to play UNC-Wilmington on April 12.
