ATLANTA – Georgia State's women's tennis team took care of Troy Thursday at Piedmont Park, defeating the Trojans 6-1 to improve to 11-8 on the season and extending the Panthers' win streak to a season-long four matches.
Sun Belt Player of the Week Linn Timmermann helped the Panthers to victory on Thursday, winning her No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-1 after clinching the doubles point for Georgia State, winning No. 1 doubles 8-6 with partner Tarani Kamoe. Timmermann has won three in a row in singles and owns an 8-3 record at the No. 3 spot.
Niri Rasolomalala and Kristin Rehse won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, moving the duo to a team-leading 13-3 record. Troy won at No. 3, but the Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the match with Timmermann and Kamoe's win at the top spot.
GSU continued to roll in singles, quickly gaining two more points with Timmermann's No. 3 win and Rasolomalala's straight-set victory at No. 2. Senior Chaimaa Roudami bumped her dual record to 10-3, beating Troy's Margot De Haan 6-1, 6-1 to clinch the match for the Panthers. Rehse and Veronika Golanova collected wins at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, but Troy avoided the sweep, claiming a 7-5, 6-2 win at the top spot.
Senior Day is Saturday as Georgia State hosts rival Georgia Southern in the final regular-season match of the year. Roudami and Masa Grgan will be recognized before the match, which is set for a 2 p.m. start at Blackburn Tennis Center.
