ATLANTA – Georgia State's women's tennis team improved to 9-8 on the year with Friday's 4-3 win over South Florida at Piedmont Park. The Panthers clinched with freshman Kristin Rehse's three-set win at No. 4 singles.
“We did a great job of handling the windy conditions today,” head coach Jason Marshall said. “There was a lot of distractions out there between the cold and the wind and we didn't let either beat us.”
Masa Grgan and Marcia Tere-Apisah helped GSU win the doubles point with a win a No. 3. The Panthers clinched the point when Linn Timmermann and Tarani Kamoe won 6-4 at the top spot. Kamoe and Timmermann own a 14-6 record in doubles and a 6-5 record in dual play at No. 1.
Georgia State lost at No. 6 singles, but went up 2-1 as senior Chaimaa Roudami won her third straight match to improve to a team-leading 11-5. Timmermann won at No. 3 but the Bulls took the top two matches to tie things up at 3-3. Freshman Kristin Rehse fell in Set 2, but rallied to win 6-1 in the third to get the victory for the Panthers.
Georgia State is at home for three more matches before the Sun Belt Conference Championships April 16-19. The Panthers host No. 51 Tulane Sunday at 8 a.m. at Atlanta Athletic Club.
