ATLANTA – Georgia State's men's tennis team ended a three-match losing streak Tuesday with a 4-3 win over Tennessee Tech at Piedmont Park. Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou clinched it for the Panthers with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

“I thought this was our best doubles point of the year,” head coach Brett Ross said. “It's not always easy to come out and play a mid-week match with high energy, but that's exactly what we did today. We're glad to finally have a close match go our way.”

Due to rain in the area, Ross and Tennessee Tech's coach agreed to play singles first to see if a winner could be determined. Georgia State scored the first point with Felipe Jaworski sprinting to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. The Golden Eagles responded by taking No. 3 singles in similar fashion. Both sides traded points and split singles at 3-3 to force doubles competition.

Once in doubles, Georgia State took off, winning No. 3 doubles with Jaworski and Jannis Koeke. The Panthers held a lead in Nos. 1 and 2 of the other matches when Acuna and Andrukhou won 6-2 to clinch the doubles point.

Georgia State improves to 6-9 on the year with the win. The Panthers' last three losses all came versus ranked teams. The 4-3 win puts Georgia State's record in one-point contests at 4-4, meaning more than half of the team's results in 2015 have been 4-3 decisions.

The Panthers play their next five on the road with the first coming Monday at Mercer. Georgia State is back home to host rival Georgia Southern on April 10.
