What you need to know:
* Georgia State (7-5) lost 5-2 to No. 28 William and Mary Sunday morning in Williamsburg, Va.
* The Panthers claimed the doubles point but only pulled out one win in singles.
* Linn Timmermann improved to 5-3 at No. 3 singles with her straight-set win.
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Facing its second ranked team in as many days, Georgia State's women's tennis team won the doubles point at No. 28 William and Mary, but the Tribe proved to be the better squad on Sunday, winning 5-2.
In a matchup of ranked doubles teams, No. 48 Jeltje Loomans and Leeza Nemchinov deafeated No. 40 Linn Timmermann and Tarani Kamoe 6-3 to even up the score after Georgia State won No. 3 doubles with Veronika Golanova and Masa Grgan. Niri Rasolomalala and Kristin Rehse clinched the doubles point for Georgia State with a 6-4 win at No. 2. Rehse and Rasolomalala are 9-2 in doubles and have won five straight.
Georgia State fell behind in singles after the Tribe won at Nos. 5 and 1. Timmermann improved to 5-3 on the season at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-1 win to even the score at 2-2. William and Mary would go on to win the final three singles matches to take the match 5-2.
The Panthers go back on the road next weekend and will face Nebraska and No. 21 Purdue in Lincoln, Neb.
