Panthers Upset in Nashville by Belmont 3-1

NASHVILLE, TENN. – Belmont scored two goals in the final 14 minutes to upset Georgia State 3-1 on Tuesday night at E. L. Rose Field.

Georgia State, who ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA in scoring with 2.38 goals per game got just one tonight as Belmont GK Grayson Rector recorded five saves. The Panthers took 14 shots, six on goal in the loss.

Belmont, who had gone 0-8-1 since a win on Aug. 28, improves to 2-9-1 on the season. Rashad Hyacenth scored the first goal of the game at 11:26 and the last goal of the game at 88:42.

GSU, who had won three in a row and was ranked No. 8 in the Southeast Region, got its goal tonight by Liam Fitzsimmons off a corner kick at 69:46 that tied the match at 1-1. GSU stands 5-4 on the season, 1-0 in the Sun Belt.

Belmont broke the tie with the game-winning shot at 76:34 outside the box on a long unassisted shot by Raphael Colmanette.

The toughest part of the match for Georgia State is that the team's leading scorer, Eddie Wilding, picked up a red card in the final 70 seconds. That means he will have to sit out Saturday night's conference match in Atlanta against NJIT.
