GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Georgia State women's tennis improved to 1-1 on the season with a 4-0 sweep of Elon at the ITA Kickoff in Gainesville, Fla. The win is the first for new head coach Jason Marshall.

The No. 61 Panthers (1-1) used strong play from freshman Kristin Rehse in both singles and doubles to sweep the Pheonix. Rehse and her doubles partner, fellow newcomer Niri Rasolomalala, defeated their doubles opponent 6-3 in a quick, 35-minute match at the No. 2 spot. Rehse also made easy work of her singles competition, winning 6-2, 6-1.

The other wins came from No. 102 Rasolomalala at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-3) and from senior Chaimaa Roudami at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-2). Marshall said it was a good bounce back from the defeat the team suffered on Saturday.

“I am glad we finished the weekend stronger we began,” Marshall said. “We are a little rusty from being off over 2 months, but our girls fought hard today and now we have to get ready to face three opponents in as many days next weekend.”

The Panthers are slated to play their home opener against Middle Tennessee on Friday at 6:30 at Life Time Athletic and Tennis. GSU then plays host to Louisiana Tech on Saturday and Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.
