Men's Tennis Falls to No. 47 UNCW

ATLANTA – The No. 73 Georgia State men's tennis team lost 5-2 to No. 47 UNCW Tuesday afternoon. Felipe Jaworski and Robert Schulze were the lone Panthers to score points for GSU.

Georgia State almost won the doubles point, and almost pulled off a major upset at No. 1 doubles, but lost in tiebreaker. After Eric Baum and Jannis Koeke won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles against Zach Hublitz and Santtu Leskinen and Valentin Horvat and Felipe Jaworkski lost at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, to Kaue Pereira and Pedro Mol, it came down to No. 1 doubles.

Schulze and Sofiane Chevallier started off the match hot against No. 28 nationally ranked pair of Rafael Aita and Sam Williams, beginning the match 3-0. The Seahawks fought back and eventually the two pairs were tied at 6-6. UNCW prevailed in a tiebreaker, winning 7-5, and gave UNCW the doubles point.

In singles, Jaworski, at No. 6 singles, defeated Hublitz 6-2, 6-3. Schulze won his match at No. 3 singles in three sets, defeating Mol 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Cook lost to No. 78 Aita 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.

Baum also went to three sets, losing to Pereira 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Chevallier lost in straight sets to Leskinen 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Koeke, at No. 2 singles, lost 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) to Williams.

The Panthers will face another ranked opponent this week in No. 52 Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. on Friday at Georgia Tech's home courts.
