Timmermann, Kamoe Continue to Impress

Women's Tennis Routs ULM 6-1

ATLANTA - The No. 61 Georgia State women's team routed Sun Belt opponent Louisiana-Monroe 6-1 Friday afternoon.

Georgia State won the doubles point and five of the six singles matches. In doubles, Marcia Tere-Apisah and Tarani Kamoe at No. 2 doubles and Linn Timmermann and Chaimaa Roudami, at No. 3 doubles, both won their doubles matches. The No. 20 pair of Abigail Tere-Apisah and Masa Grgan were leading in their doubles match when the match was called.

Marcia Tere-Apisah and Kamoe defeated ULM's Sthefani Rodriguez and Sandy Lochu 8-3, while Timmermann and Roudami defeated Petra Horakova and Angela Tejedor 8-5. Abigail Tere-Apisah and Grgan led Medy Blankvoort and Sophie Rufyikiri 7-4.

In singles, No. 12 Abigail Tere-Apisah defeated Blankvoort 5-7, 6-1, 10-3 at No. 1 singles. Abigail's younger sister, Marcia at No. 3 singles, also needed three sets to defeat her opponent, Rufyikiri 1-6, 6-1, 6-3. 

At No. 4 singles, Timmermann breezed by Rodriguez 6-1, 6-3. Senior Maryna Kozachenko routed her opponent, Tejedor, with her 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory. Roudami won with the same score as Kozachenko, 6-2, 6-1, over Lochu at No. 6 singles.

"We are very happy to get a win against a conference opponent," interim head coach Robin Stephenson said. "We did a good job executing the style of tennis we want to play. We played a solid match from start to finish and got the job done."

The Panthers will be back in action Sunday against SC State. Before the 10 a.m. start time at Piedmont Park, there will be short senior day ceremony to honor Kozachenko and Abigail Tere-Apisah at approximately. 9:55 a.m.
