TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Senior Abigail Tere-Apisah was the lone Panther to record a point in Saturday's match against No. 12 Alabama (3-0). She partnered with Masa Grgan to also win at doubles, but the Panthers (1-1) did not win the doubles point.
No. 8 Tere-Apisah defeated the Crimson Tide's Mary Anne Daines 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 to stay a perfect 2-0 in singles this spring. Alongside Grgan, the No. 23 doubles pair defeated Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe 6-4 to win at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, freshmen Tarani Kamoe and Marcia Tere-Apisah fell to Daines and Danielle Spielmann 6-2. Junior Chaimaa Roudami and sophomore Linn Timmermann, in the No. 3 doubles spot, lost to Emily Zabor and Luicelena Perez 6-2 as well.
At No. 2 singles, Grgan lost to No. 76 Spielmann 6-1, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Marcia Tere-Apisah lost to Maya Jansen 6-1, 6-1. Timmermann, at No. 4 singles, lost to No. 68 Routliffe 6-3, 6-2. Senior Maryna Kozachenko, playing at No. 5 singles, lost to No. 69 Zabor 6-0, 6-4. In the final singles spot, Roudami fell to Natalia Maynetto 6-4, 6-3.
Georgia State will return home to face Mercer on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
