First Indoor Competition Yields School Record

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - The first official completed event of the indoor track and field season yielded a school record for Georgia State.

Sophomore LaPorscha Wells broke the GSU record in the weight throw with a heave of 17.26m (56-07.50) today at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The previous record was by Kesean Henderson at 15.56m (51-07.75).Wells finished second among the 24 throwers in the BSC Icebreaker Meet.  

Teammate Carresa Reeves would have set a school record as she also topped the previous best. The senior from Philadelphia had a throw of 15.92m (52-02.75). Reeves finished fifth overall in today's competition.

In the 60m hurdles, freshman Allyson Goff finished in the top eight to qualify for the finals with a time of 8.85. A calf injury didn't allow her to finish the finals.

The 18 members who made the trip for this season indoor opener will compete into the evening in Birmingham.
