\GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Georgia State men's golf team opened with rounds of 295 and 294 to stand in sixth place entering the final round of the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate at the Grandover Resort on Sunday.
Senior Davin White led the Panthers with rounds of 71 and 73 to stand at even par and tied for ninth with one round to play. White made seven birdies over the course of two rounds.
“I thought we did okay today,” head coach Joe Inman. “We did some good things, but also made a few mistakes that cost us some strokes. We are still in a good position to move up the leaderboard on Sunday and I think we will have a good finish by the time we are done.”
Sophomore Nathan Mallonee opened play with rounds of 73 and 74 to stand in a tie for 20th at 3-over par. Mallonee also made seven birdies during the 36 holes of play.
Junior J.J. Grey opened play with rounds of 75 and 73 to stand tied for 24th at 4-over par.
After shooting 77 in the morning, senior Damon Stephenson rebounded with an afternoon 74 and stands tied for 42nd at 7-over par entering the final round.
Freshman Alexander Herrmann rounded out the Panthers line-up following rounds of 76 and 81 and is 13-over par, tied for 73rd with 18 holes to play.
Freshman Max Herrmann, competing as an individual shot 76 and 72 and is tied for 24th at 4-over.
No. 21 North Carolina shot rounds of 288 and 280 to build a three-stroke lead at 8-under par following 36 holes. No. 33 Virginia Tech is in second at 5-under, followed by Memphis and Chattanooga tied for third at 8-over. Mercer rounded out the top five at 9-over par with the Panthers four strokes behind the Bears.
Virginia Tech's Scott Vincent leads by four strokes after shooting rounds of 66 and 69 on day one. He stands at 9-under par to lead Chattanooga's Andrew Weathers and North Carolina's William Register and Ben Griffin who are each at 5-under. Mercer's Trey Rule and Virginia Tech's Trevor Cone are tied for fifth at 3-under.
Georgia State is making its fourth straight appearance in UNCG's annual event. The 13-team field features three teams currently ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek and 12 teams in the top 100. The Panthers are currently ranked No. 75 in the country.

This event will conclude the fall season for the Panthers. Georgia State will return to action at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, Feb. 14-15, in Gainesville, Fla.
