Led by sophomore Davin White, the Georgia State men's golf team stands in eighth place out of 18 teams after two rounds of play at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational in Aiken, S.C.
White shot 72 in both rounds Monday for a four-over-par 144, tied for 14th place in the individual standings. Freshman Jonathan Grey fired a 71 in Monday's second round, while junior Tyler Gruca had a 71 in the first round, and both are one stroke behind White with a 36-hole total of 145, tied for 17th place. Grey is seeking his seventh Top 20 finish in his seventh collegiate event.
Georgia State totalled 294 in the first round and then improved to 290 on Monday's second 18 at the 6,617-yard, par-70 Palmetto Golf Club. The Panthers are four strokes behind seventh-place USC Aiken, the host school.
Also competing for Georgia State are Grant Cagle (77-73=150) and Damon Stephenson (78-80=158).
South Carolina leads the event with a 10-over par total of 570, one stroke ahead of NC State. Virginia's Mac McLaughlin, who shot 64 in the second round, leads the individual race with a five-under 135.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m.
