ATLANTA--Adding to a growing list of accolades, Georgia State women's tennis junior Abigail Tere-Apisah earned another one on Wednesday after she was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week.

Tere-Apisah has started her season strong with two wins over regionally-ranked singles opponents and one over a nationally-ranked foe. The junior is currently ranked No. 29 in the ITA National Singles rankings and defeated the No. 106-ranked player in Melissa Kopinski (Illinois) in straight sets last Saturday.

Tere-Apisah is ranked No. 6 in the Southeast Singles rankings to begin the year. She is also ranked No. 19 nationally and No. 2 regionally as a doubles pair with sophomore Masa Grgan. The Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, native is 3-1 in singles play and 2-2 in doubles play at the No. 1 positions in both singles and doubles.

She owns an important 6-4, 6-3 victory over Malika Rose to help lead GSU to a 4-3 upset victory over No. 40-ranked Oklahoma State at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Rose is the No. 14-ranked player in the Central Region Singles rankings.

The Panthers swept the first Sun Belt Player of the Week awards of the season. Georgia State men's tennis junior Thomas Cook won the award on the men's side after going 5-0 in singles play to start the season.

Georgia State (2-2), led by sixth-year head coach Miha Lisac, travels to Auburn, Ala., for a match against the No. 68-ranked Auburn Tigers. Georgia State, ranked No. 62 in the nation, is looking to bounce back from a narrow 4-3 loss against No. 31-ranked Illinois last weekend.
