Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – Led by freshman Jonathan Grey's 16th
place finish, Georgia State finished ninth at the SeaBest Seafood Invitational
hosted by Jacksonville University Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament took place at
the TPC at Sawgrass PLAYERS Stadium Course, the same course that hosts The
PLAYERS Championship each May.
The Panthers shot a final round 305 with junior Ross Mclister and
sophomore Davin White shooting team-low rounds of 74 as the field averaged
77.51 on another difficult day on the course.
Georgia State opened the tournament with rounds of 304 and 313 on
Monday with the average score over 77 in both rounds.
“We played better today, but just like yesterday, we did not putt
well enough,” commented head coach Joe Inman. “The good thing is this is just
the first tournament of the spring and we have plenty of time to get that
corrected.”
“Our guys are already looking forward to getting back on the
course in a few weeks and defending our title at the Wexford Plantation
Intercollegiate.”
Grey recorded his fifth straight top 20 finish with a final round
77. The native of Kent, England finished the 54-hole event at 10-over par, just
three strokes outside of another top ten finish.
White shot his best round of the tournament and finished a stretch
of six tournament rounds in five days after a tie for sixth at the Jones Cup
Invitational over the weekend. The sophomore made one birdie, one bogey and one
double bogey during the final round to finish tied for 25th.
Mclister and junior Kevin Lee tied for 51st at 19-over.
Mclister's 2-over 74 included five birdies, while Lee shot a final round 80.
Junior Tyler Gruca, who also played in the Jones Cup over the
weekend, fired a final round 81 to finish at 24-over par and tied for 63rd
in the 90-player field.
No. 26 Tennessee held on for a four-stroke lead over No. 30 Texas
A&M, finishing at 15-over following a final round 300. The Aggies finished

Carolina finished fourth at 36-over after shooting the round of the day, a

par, earning a six-stroke win at 5-under par following a final round 76. Texas
A&M's Greg Yates finished second at 1-over, followed by Winthrop's Kyle
Bearden and ETSU's Adrian Meronk at 3-over. Texas A&M's Drew Evans finished
alone in fifth at 4-over.
