ATLANTA - Georgia State's Clemens Dvorak was named CAA Men's Golfer of the Week after an impressive performance at the Furman Intercollegiate as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
The senior recorded his fourth top 15 performance of the year finishing tied for 11th in a field of 126 that included three of the top 50 teams in the country in this week's GolfWeek/Sagarin Rankings.
After an opening round of 73, Dvorak shot 71 and a career-low 69 on the weekend for a 3-under par finish. His 71 on Saturday, on the 6,994-yard, par 72 Furman University Golf Course, helped the Panthers to their lowest team score in more than two years.
Dvorak finished ahead of three GolfStat Top 100 golfers and lowered his season scoring average to 73.75, including a 72.77 scoring average this spring. He is now ranked among the top five in the CAA in the GolfStat rankings and will be a strong candidate for All-CAA honors.
"I am extremely proud of Clemens," commented head coach Joe Inman. "He has worked very hard this year and deserves all of the accolades coming to him. He is a team leader and will be looked at to lead our charge back to the postseason."
With Dvorak's help, the Panthers finished 9th of 21 teams at 11-over par. It was the largest and deepest field the Panthers have faced this season.
Georgia State will return to the course March 31-April 1 at the Insperity/Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga. The 54-hole event will take place at Forest Hills Country Club.
