ATLANTA--Senior Alex Vivanco headed home a rebound off a free-kick shot from redshirt junior Caleb Kernan at the 99:40 mark to lead the Georgia State men's soccer team to a 2-1 win in overtime against George Mason on Thursday night.

The Panthers (5-12-0, 2-8-0) earned a free kick opportunity on the right side near the top of the 18-yard box. Kernan stepped up and fired a shot on goal that forced George Mason goalkeeper Sean Cote to swat away the initial shot. Vivanco charged in from the left side and dove for a header from close range that ricocheted off Cote and just crossed the goal line. The goal was Vivanco's second of the match and his team-high eighth of the season.

"I happened to be in the right place at the right time, as a striker you try and get follow-up shots on goal," Vivanco said, "The keeper blocked it, it bounced right off of me and it went in, it was pretty lucky but it did get the job done."

Georgia State snaps a five-match losing streak with the victory in its final Colonial Athletic Association match. The Panthers wrap up their regular-season with a 1 p.m. match vs. Stetson on Sunday at the GSU Soccer Complex.

"I thought we had the better of the play, we did what we wanted to do as far as playing our style," third-year head coach Brett Surrency said, "The guys battled, I'm really happy for the guys. They earned it."

The Panthers fell behind in the 11^th minute when George Mason (11-6-1, 4-5-1) sophomore Timmy Mulgrew collected a deflected pass at the top of the 18-yard box and fired a low liner into the left side of the net past a diving Vincent Foermer. Less than eight minutes after, GSU responded after Vivanco took control of a turnover deep in George Mason territory and banged home a close-range shot at the 18:23 mark.

Foermer made five saves in the match to earn the victory. Cote took the loss for George Mason after making three saves in the contest. The Panthers outshot George Mason 18-10 for the match, including 3-1 in overtime. GSU also earned 10 corner kicks to the Patriots' two. The win was Georgia State's second in a row over George Mason after it took a 2-0 win last year in Fairfax, Va.
