Panthers Advance to CAA Semis, 4-0

Norfolk, Va. - The No. 3-seeded Georgia State women's tennis team advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals after defeating No. 6 seed Delaware, 4-0, Friday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion. Sophomore Tereza Lerova clinched the match for the Panthers.

Georgia State (14-3) advances to the semifinals to face No. 2 VCU Saturday at 10 a.m.

With the Panthers leading 3-0, Lerova clinched the match with a straight-sets win against Dorothy Safron, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Lerova improved to 10-7 with her third straight singles win.

Georgia State won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Abigail Tere-Apisah and Maryna Kozachenko, ranked No. 72 nationally, won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

After Kir Kemp and Othilia Lindqvist lost 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, Lerova and Katerina Gresova won the deciding match 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Lerova and Gresova were leading 5-4 before winning three straight games to clinch the point.

Freshman Abigail Tere-Apisah gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead after winning in straight sets against Megan Duran, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Tere-Apisah, the CAA Rookie of the Year, improved to 12-2 in singles on the season.

Senior Katerina Gresova earned the third point for GSU after winning in straight sets against Ivana Petrich, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. Gresova improved to 10-6 in singles, including three straight wins.

Three matches were unfinished due to the match being decided at 4-0.

Freshman Maryna Kozachenko won the first set 6-3 and lost the second set 2-6, when the match was finished.

Junior Kir Kemp was tied 6-6 and was in a first-set tiebreaker at No. 5 singles.

Freshman Othilia Lindqvist lost the first set 6-2 and was trailing 0-4 in the second set.
