Former Panther Jordan Davis Signs with Silverbacks

ATLANTA - Former Georgia State men's soccer player Jordan Davis has signed a professional contract to play for the Atlanta Silverbacks. Davis captained the Panthers during his three-year career from 2002-04.

Davis, 28, finished his career starting 42 games, scoring three goals and seven assists as a midfielder for Georgia State.

After Davis' career at GSU he played on the Atlanta Silverbacks U23 team from 2006-2008. The 5-foot-10 Peachtree City product is used as a possession midfielder and is very strong on the ball defensively.

"Jordan is a local player we've known for awhile," said Silverbacks Assistant Coach Alex Pineda Chacon.  "We're very familiar with how hard he works and the strong technical skills he brings to the team."

The GSU men's soccer team will play an exhibition game against the Silverbacks Saturday at 5 p.m. at Panthersville, giving Davis a chance to play against his former team for the first time.

"We are really excited to play the Silverbacks and challenge ourselves against a pro team," said head coach Brett Surrency.  "It will be a great experience for the guys and nice to be back playing at home at Panthersville."

"I am really happy for Jordan as he is a tireless worker and deserves this opportunity, added Surrency. "I am sure it will be a little weird for him to be on the other side of the field from GSU but I expect him to be ready to go."

Georgia State is coming off a 2-1 victory on the road against Furman last Saturday. Rising sophomore C.J. Cochran got the win in goal for State.

After Saturday's match with the Silverbacks the Panthers head to Nashville, Tenn. to face Lipscomb on April 2 at 3 p.m.
