ATLANTA - Georgia State's Kir Kemp won a three-set match to give the Panthers a 4-3 win over No. 68 Boston University Sunday at Piedmont Park.
With the overall match tied 3-3, Kemp clinched the victory for GSU after winning 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 5 singles against Jessi Linero. Kemp improved her individual record to 9-3.
Georgia State (10-2) won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Martina Ondrackova and Katerina Gresova won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles against Monika Mical and Kendal Drake. Abigail Tere-Apisah and Maryna Kozachenko won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles against Jessi Linero and Leonie Athanasiadis. Tereza Lerova and Kir Kemp, ranked No. 76 nationally, won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.
Tere-Apisah, ranked No. 115 nationally, was leading 4-0 in the first set at No. 2 singles before her opponent retired, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Tere-Apisah improved to 8-1 in singles.
Boston University (8-6) earned its first point after Stefanie Nunic won 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles against sophomore Tereza Lerova of GSU.
Senior Vi Truong picked up a three set victory at No. 6 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 against Vanessa Steiner. Truong was down 2-3 in the third set before winning four straight games to earn the third overall point for the Panthers.
The Terriers cut the lead to 3-2 as Monika Mical won in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, at No. 3 singles against Maryna Kozachenko.
Boston University tied the match at 3-3 after Leonie Athanasiadis outlasted senior Katerina Gresova in three sets, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 7-5.
Georgia State travels to Norfolk, Va., to face Old Dominion on March 25 at 2 p.m.
