Tallahassee, Fla. - Georgia State freshman Ross Mclister shot a second round 2-under par 69 and stands just two strokes off the lead entering Sunday's final round of the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State. Mclister stands at 2-under after 36 holes, helping the Panthers to a second round 293.
Despite shooting three strokes better than Friday's opening round, the Panthers 9-over round dropped State into 10th place at 21-over par. The field of 18 teams will conclude the tournament with 18 holes on Sunday on the par-71 Southwood Country Club.
Mclister's round featured a birdie on the first hole, followed by a birdie at the eighth and 16 pars. The native of Cardiff, Wales opened the tournament with an even par 71 on Friday. Playing in just his fourth tournament, the freshman had been averaging 79.0 per round entering this week.
"Ross played some really great golf again today," commented head coach Joe Inman. "As a team, we had some really solid performances and I am starting to see that all of the things we worked on are coming to fruition. I am happy for Ross as I know he has worked hard and done everything we could ask of him. Things are finally coming together for him."
Senior Alan Fowler made three birdies on the front nine, but stumbled with bogeys on his final three holes to shoot 73 and stands in a tie for 41st at 6-over par.
Freshman Tyler Gruca shot a second straight 75 after making four bogeys and stands tied for 54th at 8-over par.
Redshirt-junior Jared Cagle also got off to a solid start, before a slight stumble cost him, shooting 76 on Saturday to stand at 9-over for the tournament in a tie for 58th. 
Senior walk-on Tommy Caswell shot a second round 79 and stands in a tie for 90th at 19-over par.
No. 18 Arkansas held on to its first round lead with a second round 287 to stand at 4-under after 36 holes. Host Florida State, which trailed by 10 strokes after the first round, shot a second round 280 and now stands just three strokes back of the Razorbacks entering the final round. Kennesaw State is in third at 3-over par, followed by No. 35 North Texas at 4-over. Mississippi State rounds out the top five at 10-over par.
Troy's Zach Portemont shot a second straight 69 and leads the individual portion of the tournament at 4-under. Sebastrian Cappelen of Arkansas and Florida State's Brooks Koepka stand in a tie for second at 3-under par. Tied with Mclister is Houston's Curtis Reed at 2-under par.
Georgia State will conclude the tournament going off the tenth tee on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. with Charlotte and Cincinnati.
Following  the weekend, the Panthers will have just two more warm-ups before the CAA Championships. State will return to the Administaff/Augusta State Invitational at Forest Hills Country Club on April 2-3.
