Men's Tennis Falls to No. 21 Georgia Tech, 7-0

ATLANTA - The Georgia State men's tennis team (5-3) fell to No. 21 Georgia Tech (5-1), 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

The Panthers dropped all three doubles matches to fall behind 1-0 to start the match. At No. 1 doubles, playing for the first time together, Thomas Cook/Victor Valente fell, 8-6 to No. 8 Juan Spir/Kevin King. The team of Cook/Valente was able to hold serve six times and was only broken once in the match.

Georgia Tech increased its lead by picking up victories at No. 4 and No. 6 singles in straight sets.

Freshman Vincent Verpeaux dropped the first set, 6-2, before playing a tiebreaker in the second set. Verpeaux lost the tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6), giving Tech's Magin Ortiga the clinching point at No. 5 singles.

The Yellow Jackets earned two more wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles in straight sets.

Freshman Thomas Cook battled No. 48 Juan Spir at No. 2 singles, losing the first set 6-4. Cook won three straight games, after being down 4-1, eventually losing 6-4. He won the second set 6-4 and with the match already decided, they played a three set super tiebreaker. Cook would not back down, but fell in the super tiebreaker 10-7. It was Cook's first loss of the season.

Georgia State returns to action on Saturday against Tennessee Tech at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Park.
