Gainesville, Ga. - The Georgia State women's tennis team (2-0) defeated Brenau University, 7-2, on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers won two doubles matches and five of the six singles spots to start the season 2-0.
The Panthers had to play a nine-point format in the match, meaning all three doubles matches counted towards the overall score.
Georgia State won two of the three doubles matches to earn two of the three points. After each team won one doubles match, Martina Ondrackova/Othilia Lindqvist won the deciding point at No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (7-3). The Ondrackova/Lindqvist team was able to win the tiebreaker, 7-3, to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead.
Freshmen Othilia Lindqvist and Maryna Kozachenko both picked up singles victories in straight sets. Lindqvist won at No. 6 singles and Kozachenko at No. 3 singles.
Senior Katerina Gresova won in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1, to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Junior Martina Ondrackova earned his first win of the season after winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore Kir Kemp won at No. 5 singles, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Brenau earned its lone point at the No. 1 flight, where Lyn See Choo outlasted GSU's Tereza Lerova, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0. After splitting sets, they played a tiebreaker for the deciding set.
Georgia State returns to action on Wednesday to face Emory in Atlanta at 3 p.m.
