Men's Golf Stands Ninth at Seahawk Invitational

Wilmington, N.C. - The Georgia State men's golf team stands ninth after two rounds of play at the Seahawk Invitational entering Monday's final round. Freshman Victor Lavin led State on Sunday afternoon and stands tied for 33rd.

Played on the par 72, 6,918-yard Country Club of Landfall, which hosted the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship last year, the 54-hole tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Monday.

After struggling to an opening round 314 on Sunday morning, the Panthers rebounded to shoot 295 and move up to ninth from 12th place in the afternoon.

"I am proud of the way we rebounded in the afternoon," commented head coach Joe Inman. "We have a very young team with us this week, but if we can play tomorrow like we did this afternoon, I think we can move up some more spots and have a solid finish."

Lavin opened play with a 79 in the morning, before rebounding with a 73, tying with freshman Ross McLister for the Panthers best round of the day. He enters the final round at 8-over par.

Freshman walk-on Tyler Gruca, who has been the Panthers top finisher three times this season, opened with a 76 and followed with an afternoon 77 to stand in a tie for 36th.

Gruca is tied with senior Tommy Caswell, who shot 79 in the morning and improved with a 74 in the afternoon. The duo stands at 9-over par.

McLister stands in a tie for 43rd after shooting rounds of 81 and 73. The freshman is currently 10-over after 36 holes.

Senior Brent Paul enters Monday's final round tied for 45th after shooting an 80 in the morning and 75 in the afternoon to stand at 11-over par.

Wake Forest leads the 12-team field at 2-over par, shooting rounds of 291 and 287 on Sunday. The Demon Deacons lead East Carolina by two strokes. Host UNC Wilmington, which led after the first round, dropped to third and stands at 7-over par. Liberty (12-over) and South Carolina (13-over) round out the top five.

Wake Forest's Charlie Harrison leads the field after rounds of 72 and 69, to stand at 3-under par with one round to play. UNC Wilmington's Ryan Sullivan, playing as an individual, stands second at 2-under par. East Carolina teammates David Watkins and Zach Edmondson are tied for third at 1-under par, with a group of four tied for fifth at even.
