Franklin, Tenn. - The Georgia State men's golf team improved play during the second day of competition in the Mason Rudolph Championship, moving up two spots on the leader board to 15th. After struggling through the opening round, the Panthers shot a three-over par 287, 19 shots lower than their first round score.
Freshman Bryan Fox rebounded from his first round 82 to lead the Panthers in the second round, shooting a two-under par 69. Fowler also led the team in birdies with four on the day. He is tied for 72nd going into the final round.
Walk-on Tyler Gruca also improved his first round score, shooting a one-over par 72. Aside from one birdie and two bogies, he stayed consistent, shooting an even par on the other 15 holes. Gruca finished the second round in the lead for the Panthers, with a share of 54th place on the individual leader board.
Senior Brent Paul also shot a 72 (+1) in the second round of play, bettering his first round score by five strokes. He enters the final 18 holes tied for 58th.
Also with a share of 58th, senior Alan Fowler recorded a three-over par 74. After recording four bogies on his front nine, Fowler shot even par with one birdie on his 13th hole (hole No. 4) to finish the day.
Redshirt-junior Jared Cagle shot an 80 and finished the day in 86th place.
Memphis remains in the lead of the 17-team field, shooting even par on day two. South Carolina took over second place, six strokes behind the Tigers and two strokes ahead of Oklahoma.
Memphis' Jack Belote took over first place in individual competition, shooting a two-under par 69, followed by South Carolina's Blaine Woodruff (136) and Ole Miss's Joe David (139).
Competition will come to a close Sunday with tee times will beginning at 7:30 a.m.
