Sherreard Finishes 26th at NCAA Regional

Georgia State senior Tom Sherreard shot a final round 71 (+1), playing as an individual, at the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional on the 7,182 yard par-70 Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga. Saturday.

Sherreard finishes his collegiate career with a tie for 26th at the NCAA Southeast Regional, his best career finish at an NCAA Regional.

The Maidstone, England native finished the first round in a tie for 13th place, finishing tied for second among individual qualifiers. In the second round, Sherreard dropped from 13th to 30th.

“I know Tom wanted to advance, and he had worked hard in preparation for this tournament,” said Georgia State head coach Joe Inman. “He gave great effort all weekend, and came up just a little short. He should be very proud of the way he represented himself and Georgia State this week.”

Sherreard bogeyed the par-three third for the second-straight day, but picked up three birdies on the front side, including back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes, both par fours, for a 33 (-2) on the front nine. The two-under par side equaled Sherreard's best nine-hole stretch of the tournament, he also shot 33 on the front nine during his first round Thursday.

To advance to the NCAA Championship, Sherreard needed to finish as the top individual not on a qualifying team. The top five teams advance from the regional to the championship. With his final round 71, Sherreard posts 71-74-71--216 (+6) to finish seven shots away from advancing.

Robbie Fillmore of BYU and Jonathan Randolph of Mississippi finished in a tie for third at 209 (-1). Fillmore won a five-hole sudden-death playoff to earn the individual exemption to the NCAA Championship.

“We're sad to see Tom go,” said Inman. “He's been such a valuable part of our program as a leader both on and off the course. We wish him the best of luck in the future, and I'm glad I had one more chance to coach him at this regional.”
