With Second Round 74, Sherreard Drops to 30th

Georgia State senior Tom Sherreard carded a second-round 74 (+4), playing as an individual, at the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional on the 7,182 yard par-70 Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga. Friday.

The Maidstone, England native finished the first round in a tie for 13th place, finishing tied for second among individuall qualifiers. In the second round, Sherreard dropped from 13th to 30th.

“I think Tom's a little disappointed with how the second day went,” said Georgia State head coach Joe Inman. “It's tough with the weather to stay focused, and I think he did a good job of that. The course played longer today, but I think the score just came down to a few missed opportunities here and there. He'll be ready tomorrow to try to do something spectacular.”

The second day of the tournament got off to a rough start as rain forced a delay until approximately 9:30 a.m. The afternoon saw a second delay from 3:04 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Sherreard started on the back nine, posting a double-bogey on the par-four 11th. After righting the ship with a birdie on the par-four 16th to go out in 37 (+2), Sherreard dropped bogeys on two par-threes on the front side to come in with another 37 (+2).

To advance to the NCAA Championship, Sherreard must finish as the top individual not on a qualifying team. The top five teams advance from the regional to the championship.

Sherreard is still in good shape to post his career-best finish at an NCAA Regional. In 2009, Sherreard captured a share of 27th place at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.

Heading into the final round Robbie Fillmore of BYU holds the overall lead after posting 68-69--137 (-3) through 36 holes. Logan Blondell of Georgia Southern, Jamie Marshall of Arkansas, and Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State sit in a three-way tie for second at two-under par. Marshall and Blondell represent the two low-individuals not on a currently qualifying team.

The final round of the NCAA Southeast Regional begins Saturday at 8:00 a.m. with golfers teeing off of both the first and 10th tees. Live scoring is available at www.GolfStat.com. Full details and results will be posted to www.GeorgiaStateSports.com at the close of competition.
