Georgia State improved in the second round thanks to Alan Fowler's 69 (-3), but remained in 18th of 18 teams at the Administaff/Augusta State Invitational Saturday at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
"I was proud of how the guys rebounded in the second round today," said Georgia State head coach Joe Inman. "We had trouble in the morning, but hung in there and put up a good number in the afternoon. We're looking forward to tomorrow."
The Panthers dug themselves a hole early with an opening round 308 (+20), but improved dramatically in the afternoon round with a 4-under par 284.
Junior Alan Fowler turned in the best score of the day with a 69 in the second round. Fowler's 69 marks his best performance since firing a career-best 64 earlier this spring. Fowler's 69 followed up an opening round 76 putting his two round total at 145 (+1), good for 47th place overall.
Senior Tom Sherreard posted a 75-71--146 (+2) on day one, giving him a share of 59th place.
Junior Brent Paul carded 78-72--150 (+6) to settle into 79th place. Junior Alex Castro and sophomore Jared Cagle shared 90th position after posting a pair of 154s.
Augusta State leads the tournament at 32-under par after posting rounds of 274 and 270. Augusta State's Patrick Reed leads the individual competition after recording a 66-67--133 (-11) on the first day of play.
The Panthers are currently four shots back of Houston, their nearest competition, as they look forward to the final round tomorrow. Jared Cagle will tee off first for Georgia State, on hole #10 at 10:30 a.m.
