Panthers Fifth Heading to Final Round

Georgia State men's golf fell to fifth of 11 teams on day two of the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association championship on the 6,679 yard, par 70 Cascades course at the Homestead in Hot Springs, Va. Saturday.

"We're obviously disappointed that we didn't make up any ground on the leaders today," said Georgia State head coach Joe Inman. "But we know that we have, potentially, one round left to play this season and it comes tomorrow. Our guys are ready to give it their best and see if we can make something happen Sunday."

The Panthers are 17 shots back of leader Towson as they head to the final round, looking for an automatic berth to an NCAA Regional.

Junior Alan Fowler moved into the top-10 courtesy a 74 (+4) to pull into a tie for sixth place heading to the final round. Fowler picked up five spots on the field after finishing the first round in 11th.

In his second career CAA Championship appearance, Fowler is looking for the chance to be named to the CAA All-Tournament team. Currently, the Gainesville, Ga. native is one shot back of fourth place, which would earn a mention.

Senior Tom Sherreard dropped two spots to 10th with a second round 76 (+6). Sherreard is two shots back of his second career CAA All-Tournament honor.

Junior Brent Paul and sophomore Jared Cagle finished their second rounds tied in 22nd position after a 79 (+9) for Paul and a 76 (+6) for Cagle. Paul is on pace for his third career top-20 at the CAA Championship. Cagle is one round away from completing his career postseason debut.

Junior Alex Castro carded an 84 (+14) in the second round, moving him to 52nd overall.

Georgia State will return to the course for the final round of the 2010 CAA Championship tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Live scoring for the final round will be available at www.Golfstat.com. Full results and details will be posted to www.GeorgiaStateSports.com at the conclusion of play.
