Fowler's 64 Moves Men's Golf Into Seventh

Georgia State men's golf moved into seventh of 15 behind junior Alan Fowler's career-best 64 Monday in the Samford Intercollegiate at Limestone Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala.

"We're thrilled for Alan," said Georgia State head coach Joe Inman. "It's great to see him playing so well. He played an amazing round today. It's certainly going to help his confidence going forward, getting a chance to see what he's capable of doing out there. "

Fowler's 64 (-8) beats his previous career-best, a 68 at last year's Administaff/Augusta State Invitational, by four strokes. The round is the tied for the third lowest in school history, behind Mark Haastrup and Ty Harris's 63s in 2006 and 2004 respectively. Joel Sjoholm shot Georgia State's last 64 in 2007.

The Gainesville, Ga. native responded from an opening round 79 to move into a tie for seventh place with his outstanding round. Fowler moved up 50 places in a single round with his 64.

The Panthers' second round 290 (+2) matches their best team round of the season, tying the mark they posted at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.

After languishing in 14th of 15 at the end of the first round, Georgia State bounced back, passing seven teams in the afternoon round.

Junior Brent Paul capped an opening round 72 with a 74 to slip to 16th overall. Paul is looking to top his season-best finish of 26th, set at the Turtle Bay Resort Invitational in Oahu, Hawaii.

Junior Alex Castro improved in the afternoon, following a 76 by a 74 to position himself in 31st. Castro is coming off of a season-best ninth place finish from last week's Seahawk Intercollegiate.

Sophomore Jared Cagle posted a 78 in the second round, backing up an 80 from the first round. Cagle is in 63rd place entering the final round.

Walk-on Tommy Caswell, making his collegiate debut, broke 80 in the afternoon round by carding a 79. Caswell's 84-79-163 places him 70th overall.

Kennesaw State and Vanderbilt are tied for the lead after 36 holes at one-under par. Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson leads all individuals at seven-under par.
