Golf Finishes 10th, Sherreard Claims Seventh Top-20

Georgia State men's golf finished 10th of 15 teams and senior Tom Sherreard scored an 11th place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate on Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla. Saturday.

"We had good effort all weekend," said Georgia State head coach Joe Inman. "It was a good opportunity for us to get out and test ourselves against some good competition. We had some guys improve on the final day, and a couple of good finishes, which will help us moving toward the conference championship."

The Panthers followed up their opening round 299 with a second round 305, and finished with their best round of the tournament, a 295 (+7) to post an 899 (+43).

Sherreard fired a final round 72 (+1) to finish in a tie for eleventh Sunday, one shot out of the tie for seventh, and slipping two spots from his ninth place position entering the final round. His three-day total of 216 (+3) placed him four shots away from first.

After taking a week off at the Samford Intercollegiate, the Maidstone, England native has continued to find success on the golf course. Sherreard posted his seventh top-20 of the 2009-10 season.

Junior Brent Paul moved up into a tie for 33rd with a final round 74 (+3). Paul held a share of 38th place heading into the final round.

Junior Alan Fowler posted a 76 (+5), which dropped him one spot from 52nd to 53rd. Fowler finished the event with a total of 230 (+16) a week after earning his best career finish.

Junior Alex Castro improved in each of the final two rounds. Castro posted his best number of the tournament on Sunday, a 73 (+2), to pick up 13 spots and finish in a tie for 50th.

Sophomore Jared Cagle carded a tournament-low 77 (+6) on the final afternoon, moving up to 72nd after opening the Seminole Intercollegiate with a pair of 82s.

Host Florida State won the team competition by one stroke, leading the event from wire-to-wire.

Florida State's Seath Lauer and South Carolina's Paul Woodbury earned medalist honors with three-day totals of 212 (-1).

The Panthers will return to action on April 4 for the Administaff/ASU Invitational in Augusta, Ga., their final tuneup before the Colonial Athletic Association championship.
