Sherreard and Castro Move into Top 10, GSU 4th in N.C.

Georgia State moved into fourth of 12 at the Seahawk Intercollegiate, with the help of top-10 performances from both senior Tom Sherreard and junior Alex Castro, Monday at the par-72 7,058 yard Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.

"We're very pleased with the effort our guys showed to bounce back today," said Georgia State head coach Joe Inman. "We're hoping for a good showing tomorrow to get us back on track."

Sherreard and Castro are six back of leaders Patrick Reed of Augusta State and Jake Colley of East Carolina, who both posted 139 (-5).

Castro posted the best round of the day for the Panthers', a two-under par 70 in Monday's second round. The Alpharetta, Georgia native's 70 ties his career-best, set at the 2007 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate and again at the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Championship.

Sherreard opened the tournament with a 72 to position himself in 10th overall, and moved up one position with a 73 in the afternoon for his 145 (+1).

Juniors Alan Fowler, Brent Paul, and Alex Castro all carded 75 (+3) in the first round, giving them a share of 26th place overall.

After Castro's move up the leaderboard and Fowler's second round 74, both men are looking for season-best finishes. Brent Paul struggled in the second round, posting an 86 to fall into a tie for 57th.

Fowler posted a 26th place finish and Castro finished 32nd, for their season-bests in Hawaii.

Sophomore Jared Cagle carded an opening round 78 (+6) to find himself in a tie for 47th at the end of 18. A second round 77 helped Cagle to a share of 43rd. Cagle is looking for his best finish of the spring, after a pair of disappointing results in Florida.

The Panthers have an opportunity to measure themselves against Colonial Athletic Association competition this week in Wilmington. Currently, Georgia State holds a lead over James Madison, William & Mary, VCU, and Drexel, but trails UNC Wilmington by two shots.

The final round will begin for the Panthers tomorrow at 8:09 a.m. Full results and details will be posted at www.GeorgiaStateSports.com at the conclusion of play. Live stats are unavailable for the tournament.
