Panthers Finish Play at TPC Sawgrass

Georgia State men's golf finished 14th at the JU Invitational on the TPC Stadium Course Tuesday. The Panthers were led Senior Tom Sherreard, who finished in a tie for 19th place firing a 74-75 over the final two rounds to come back from an opening day 80. Sherreard finishes with a total of 229 (+13) to record his fourth top 20 in as many events this season.

The Panthers posted rounds of 314 (+26) and 317 (+29) on the final day to wrap up the JU Invitational with scores of 325-314-317—956 (+92). Georgia State slipped from ninth to 14th over the final 18 at the par-72 7,122 yard Stadium Course.

Junior Alex Castro finished tied for 37th with scores of 80-79-79—238 (+22). Junior Alan Fowler came in one shot behind Castro at 42nd with a total of 239 (+23) on rounds of 83, 77, and 79. Brent Paul landed in 71st place with an 84-84-84—256 (+36). Sophomore Jared Cagle ended his tournament in 75th at +42 courtesy an 82-91-85—258.

East Tennessee State won the tournament at +29. Brendan Gielow of Wake Forest won the tournament at +2 with rounds of 76-69-73—218.

On Monday, Sherreard rebounded in the afternoon round with 16 holes of 1-over par golf as Georgia State wrapped up day one in ninth place. The second round was called due to darkness 6:11 p.m. with golfers having played between 15 and 16 holes.

Junior Alan Fowler also improved on Monday afternoon, moving up 13 places to a tie for 43rd by playing 15 holes in 5-over par.

East Carolina's Jake Colley shot the low round of the tournament on Monday, a blistering 67 (-5), to lead the field by a full four shots at the end of round one.

Georgia State will return to the course next week at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The tournament begins February 13 with live stats from www.GolfStat.com and end of round coverage at www.GeorgiaStateSports.com.
