Hempstead, N.Y. - The Georgia State men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Hofstra on Saturday night at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 4-3-2 overall and 1-2 in the CAA. Hofstra improved to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
"Hofstra is one of the toughest places to play in the CAA," commented head coach Brett Surrency. "We knew that going in and I thought for 75 minutes we were ready. We continued to battle hard, but we just could not get a goal at the end."
With 20 minutes remaining in the game, sophomore Yasser Majluf got the ball down the field and sent a hard shot towards the net from just 18 yards out, but it went just wide of the post.
Just five minutes, later off a free kick, Hofstra scored the game-winning goal on a diving header from Shaun Foster. It was Foster's first goal of the season and provided the Pride with the 1-0 victory.
In a defensive battle from start to finish, the Panthers had an opportunity in the first half to crack the scoreboard when junior Jacob Hamilton blasted a shot just wide in the 36th minute.
In the second half, Georgia State made a push to find the equalizer as freshman Michael Nwiloh had a chance in the 83rd minute, but his shot attempt was blocked by the Pride defense.
Sophomore goalkeeper Vincent Foermer kept the Panthers in the game with three key saves, including two in the first half to keep the game even at halftime.
Georgia State continues its road trip on Wednesday against William & Mary at 7 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va. State returns home a week from Sunday, facing Northeastern at 3 p.m.
