Athens, Ga. - The No. 51-ranked Georgia State women's tennis team dropped its opening match, 5-1, against William and Mary at the ITA National Indoors tournament held in Athens, Ga. Sophomore Diana Nakic, ranked No. 42 nationally, earned a point from the number one singles slot by defeating Ragini Acharya, 6-4, 6-2.
The Panthers fall to 0-1 on the season and will play Saturday at 9 a.m. against the loser of the Georgia vs. Virginia Tech match-up, which takes place Friday at 2 p.m.
Two Georgia State players made their debuts on Friday morning with freshman Tereza Lerova, from Ostrava-Bartovice, Czech Republic, falling in three sets to Nina Vulovich 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Also sophomore Kir Kemp, a transfer from the University of New Orleans, made her debut for the Panthers, losing 6-2, 6-2, against Marlen Mesgarzadeh.
Georgia State hopes to even its record on Saturday before heading out on the road to play Furman on February 6 in Greenville, S.C.
