Atlanta, Ga. (July 3, 2009) - Three more players have signed national letters of intent to play soccer in 2009 for Georgia State, head coach
Kerem Daser announced this week. These three signees pushes the total to ten players signed for the 2009 season, the last three are:
Alex Reyes (Lawrenceville, Ga Collins Hill HS)
Eric Lawrence (Columbus, Ga Pacelli HS)
Vincent Foermer (Seevetal, Germany (Gymnasium Meckelfeld)
Eric Lawrence Lawrence is a skilled goal scorer that hails from Columbus, Ga. Lawrence was named Ledger-Enquirer Boys Soccer co-Player of the Year for 2009. Lawrence had 17 goals and 11 assists for the Pacelli Vikings, who advanced into the Class AA/A second round before losing to Westminster 2-1 in overtime.
“
Eric Lawrence is one of the most skilled players I have recruited. He has great vision, and his mental speed is very high. He is a different type of player that could come in and compete for a starting job right away at the attacking midfield or defensive midfield position,” commented Coach Daser.
Alejandro ReyesReyes comes to Georgia State from Lawrenceville, Ga where he played at Collins Hill. He played for the Super Y team from 2003-06 and won the State Championship in 2008. Reyes was a Region Quarterfinalist in 2008 and was chosen to play for the Mexican National Team game. He finished his career by winning back-to-back state championships in 2008-09. He also won the Nike Cup Championships in 2008 and was a four year letter-winner in varsity soccer. Alejandro was a high school teammate of fellow Georgia State freshman
Juan Giraldo.
“Reyes will be looking to compete for playing time at the right midfield position. He has good speed, and is a solid technical player that will help our team in the long run.”
Vincent FoermerVincent is the third international player to sign with the Georgia State Panthers this season. Starting in 2002, he played in 20 games for the representative team of lower Saxony. On his U15 team, Vincent won the conference, including half of all representative teams of Germany with that team. In 2004 and 2005 he earned four invitations for the German national team. In the 2006-07 season, Vincent won the regional championship north and so qualified for the National quarterfinals. Vincent's team went on to lose that match by a penalty shootout, although he saved one of four attempts on goal.
“Vincent is a big time goal keeper that was one of the best young goal keepers in the country of Germany. We will look for him to compete for the starting goal keeper job. Vincent has great shot blocking skills along with great leadership that will be a big asset to the team,” said Coach Daser.
The Panthers report to school on Aug. 11 to begin final preparations for the 2009 season.
