Paul's 69 Moves Team to 6th Place

Led by a 69 from sophomore Brent Paul, Georgia State men's golf posted a final round 281 to come up one place short of an NCAA Championship berth at the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional in Sorrento, Fla. Saturday.

The Panthers tamed the par 71, 7,136-yard Red Tail Golf Club with rounds of 282-280-281?843 (-9). Georgia State's three-day total of 844 marks the lowest ever posted by the Panthers at an NCAA regional. The Panthers rounds of 280, 281, and 282 mark the third, fourth, and fifth best rounds at a regional in school history.

Georgia State finished sixth, seven strokes back of fifth place Iowa at -15. The Panthers did beat two top 25 teams in Indiana and Florida State.

Tobias Rosendahl finished up a strong tournament with a final round 70, giving him a three round total of 210 (-3) to finish 23rd. Rosendahl's score ties for the second best ever turned in by a Georgia State golfer at an NCAA regional.

Allen John's final round of 70 gave him a three round total of 212 (-2) to finish in 32nd place in his first career regional appearance.

Sophomore Brent Paul came through in a big way on Saturday by posting a 69 for the Panthers. Paul finished his tournament at +7 in 60th place after posting 72-79-69?220. On Saturday, Paul became the fifth Panther to record a round in the 60s this week at the Southeast Regional. Sherreard and Allen each had a round of 68 and Rosendahl and Fowler each posted rounds of 69 during the NCAA tournament.

Tom Sherreard closed out his regional with a 72 to post 70-69-72?211 (-2) to earn a share of 27th place. Alan Fowler finished 55th place after firing 76-69-74?219 (+6).

UCF took home to team title with an 818 (-34). Finishing behind UCF and qualifying for the NCAA Championship were Georgia (-23), Arizona (-23), South Carolina (-23), and Iowa (-15).

Arizona's Tarquin McManus never looked back in the individual competition after posting a 63 on day one. McManus closed out his victory today with a 69 to shoot 63-66-69?198 (-15).

Georgia Southern's Spencer Fulford qualified for the NCAA Championship as an individual, carding rounds of 70-69-66?205 (-8).
