Freshman Allen John fired a six-under-par 65 and junior Tom Sherreard also shot under par with a one-under 70 to lead the Georgia State men's golf team in the final round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C.
John's round, which featured seven birdies and just one bogey, is the lowest score ever by a Georgia State freshman and equaled two other players for the low round of the tournament. The Mannheim, Germany native recovered from an opening-round 78 to post a 54-hole total of four-over-par 278, tied for 33rd place.
The 46th-ranked Panthers carded a two-under 282 as a team for Tuesday's final 18, shaving 11 strokes off their second round 293 to place 12th in the 15-team field that competed at the par-71, 7,282 yard Bulls Bay Golf Club.
Sherreard, the junior from Maidstone, England, also finished strong, following his second-round 73 with a 70. For the tournament, he tied for 54th at 222 (+9). Also at 222 is Georgia State sophomore Alan Fowler, who shot 73 Tuesday.
Sophomore Tobias Rosendahl, who was the low Panther in rounds one and two, finished at eight-over-par 221, tied for 50th, after shooting 76 Tuesday.
Augusta State captured the team title with a three-day score of 835, 17 strokes under par and eight shots better than second-place Virginia. The Jaguars' Janne Kaske won the individual medal at 14-under par, including a final-round 65. Runnerup George Bryan of South Carolina also shot 65 Tuesday but finished two shots off the lead.
