Sophomore Tobias Rosendahl paced the Georgia State men's golf team with an even par 72 during the second round of the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational, as the Panthers shot a 9-over par, 296 to stand in 15th place after 36 holes of play. However, as the field has not separated themselves, Georgia State is just 13 strokes off of the lead.
Rosendahl's round included three birdies on a day when tough pin placements were the norm and the wind picked up early.
“This is a tough course, so you really just need to hang in there,” commented Rosendahl. “You are going to make some bogeys, but if you just try to hit some greens, the putts are eventually going to start to drop. With the field being so close, we just have to try and fight out there tomorrow.”
Rosedahl is tied for 34th place with junior Tom Sherreard who shot a second round 77. Sherreard was tied for fifth after a first round 70, but managed just one birdie in his round.
Sophomore Alan Fowler shot his second consecutive round of 74 to stand in a tie for 40th, while freshman Allen John improved from a 76 in round one, to a 74 in round two to stand 6-over.
Sophomore Brent Paul shot a second 78 and stands in a tie for 81st heading into tomorrow's final round.
Sophomore Alex Castro is competing this week as an individual and stands in a tie for 91st after rounds of 78 and 79.
#12 South Carolina and #5 Florida are tied for the team lead at 3-over par. #21 Tennessee is just one stroke back at 4-over. The top 17 team are separated by just 17 strokes.
A trio of players lead the field at 4-under par, led by Florida's Tim McKenney who is ranked 27th in the country. North Carolina State's Matt Hill and Augusta State's Taylor Floyd are tied with McKenney.
The final round of the 2009 Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational will begin at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Georgia State will be paired with Augusta State and Virginia, starting on the tenth tee at 8:45.
The Panthers will be back in action next week as they travel to Awendaw, South Carolina for the Hootie at Bulls Bay. The event benefits the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation.
