TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (FEB. 8, 2009) The Georgia State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 26 Florida State (1-2) on Sunday morning at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
Georgia State (2-2) picked up the early doubles point, winning two out of three matches at No. 1 and No. 2. Dariana Kozmina and Kiara Powell started the day with an 8-2 win over FSU's Jessica Sucupira and Lauren Macfarlane. The Seminoles rallied back with an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Diana Nakic and Linda Hricistova, but the Panthers' Martina Nitkova and Katerina Gresova sealed the doubles point with an 8-5 decision at No. 1.
The Panthers led 1-0 going into singles play, but the Seminoles won two straight at No. 2 and No. 5 to take the 2-1 lead. Diana Nakic won her fourth straight singles match and picked up the Panthers' only single point, defeating Katie Rybakova 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1.
The Seminoles won three more at No. 6, 3 and 4 to take the 5-2 victory.
Georgia State continues its dual match season on Feb. 14 as the Panthers travel to Birmingham, Ala. for a 3 p.m. match-up against Samford.
