Biography

Spring 2009:  Posted a 6-6 singles mark before heading into the NCAA Tournament and was 7-7 in doubles at the No. 2 spot with Dariana Kozmina and was 8-6 in doubles overall...Partnered with Diana Nakic in doubles as well, and posted a 1-0 mark...Was 2-0 in third-set matches...Won five of her last seven doubles matches before the NCAAs including two straight against VCU and William & Mary in regular-season finale with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Barbara Zidek...Named to the Dean's List.

Fall 2008: Posted four singles victories during the fall campaign...Advanced to the quarterfinals at the Thomasville Invitational...Defeated Princeton’s Sarah Huah, 6-3, 6-2 at the Georgia Tech Invitational...Named to the A.D. Honor Roll and received the Commissioner’s Award for the fall semester.

Spring 2008: Joined the Panthers as a transfer student from Bethune-Cookman...Posted a 10-10 regular season record...Split time at the No. 3, 4, and 5 positions...Partnered with Dariana Kozmina in doubles... Honored as CAA Doubles team of the Week on April 13 after winning six straight doubles matches to post a 9-7 mark.

Prior to Georgia State: Competed for Bethune-Cookman from 2005-2007...Was named Freshman of the Year for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in 2006...Was named to the MEAC All-Conference first team and all-tournament team in the 3 and 4 spot during her freshman and sophomore season and went undefeated those two seasons...Completed the 2006-07 season with a 23-4 record and helped Bethune-Cookman to a second place finish at the MEAC Championships with a 25-5 overall record.

Prep: Lettered in three sports- tennis, basketball, and competitive dance...Was undefeated in state high school matches all four years...Was ranked as high as No. 1 in the Intermountain Section while competing in junior tennis.

Personal: Born on December 24, 1986...Parents are Carl and Sandra Powell...Has a younger brother, Brelin, who plays tennis at Northern Arizona University...Her father played college basketball at Boise State and set the record for most points scored in a game (40 in 1979)...Favorite athletes are Venus and Serena Williams, Allen Iverson, and Jake Plummer...Majoring in business management.
