Men's Soccer Blanked by Northeastern, 2-0

Boston, Mass. (October 3, 2009) The Georgia State men's soccer team were held scoreless eventually falling 2-0 against Northeastern on Saturday night. The Panthers fall to 2-3-1, 0-2 in the CAA this season, hoping to turn things around next week when Georgia State hosts UNC Wilmington on Wednesday Oct. 7 starting at 7 p.m.

Georgia State finished the match with 12 shots including six on goal but couldn't come away with a goal against Northeastern goal keeper Scott Partridge.

"That was a frustrating game for us, we had some very good chances but just could not finish and they were the better team in the first half, said Head Coach Kerem Daser." "In the second half it was back & forth with us getting many chances in the last 20 minutes of the game but their keeper came up with some huge saves."

The Huskies scored first early in the first half when in the 24th minute of play Andre Ciliotta blasted his first goal of the season for Northeastern making the score 1-0. Teammate Don Anding was awarded an assist on the play.

Late in the first half the Panthers had an opportunity to tie the score when freshman Yasser Majluf had a shot on goal but Huskies goalie Partridge came up with the save to keep the game 1-0 at halftime.

Two minutes into the second half Northeastern struck again when Ciliotta made a nice pass to teammate Mike Kennedy who scored his second goal of the season increasing the Huskies lead to 2-0.

The Panthers were pushing strong in the second half in the 57th minute when freshman Eric Lawrence had a shot on goal but Northeastern goal keeper Partridge came up with the save. Two minutes later freshman Moosah Dowlatabadi had another chance for Georgia State when his shot on goal from saved by Huskies goalie Partridge.

Georgia State had its final chance in the 84th minute when senior Brett Cummins fired a shot on goal but Northeastern goal keeper Partridge came up with another save. Partridge finished the game with six saves to earn the shut out.

"We need to play a full 90 minutes to win games in the CAA conference, we need to improve on defense and credit to Northeastern as it is a tough place to play. We need to regroup and get ready for UNC Wilmington on Wednesday at home."

The Panthers held the advantage on shots in the second half 8-to-5 and will look to earn two conference wins next week. Georgia State welcomes UNC Wilmington on Wednesday Oct. 7 starting at 7 p.m. and Drexel on Sat. Oct 10 with all game being played at Panthersville.
