Sophomore Tobias Rosendahl turned in the tournament low score of the day with a five-under par 67 in Sunday's final round as the Georgia State men's golf team finished 15th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga.
Junior Tom Sherreard finished as the low Panther for the tournament with a three-under 69 today, earning him a 26th place finish at three-over par for the three-day, 54-hole event hosted by Georgia Tech.
Georgia State survived a tough opening round Friday but finished with four players carding their best rounds of the tournament Sunday. State's 285 total for Sunday's final round equalled the second-lowest team score of the day, tying South Carolina (285) and bettered only by Alabama's final round 283.
Panther freshman Allen John tied his tournament low with a 74, and senior Tim Freund improved with a 75. Sophomore Alex Castro followed his second-round 70 with a 76, finishing at +9 to tie with John in 56th place overall. Rosendahl began his first tournament at Georgia State with rounds of 78 and 82 before recovering with his 67, which included six birdies and just one bogey. He posted Sunday's low score, along with Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale.
"I'm very encouraged after today," said Georgia State head coach Joe Inman, coaching his first tournament at the helm of the Panthers. "We had a really tough start Friday, but then we improved about 10 shots each day. Today we had one of the best rounds of the tournament with two players in the 60s. This gives us something to build on."
In an event that annually features many of the top teams in the Southeast, the Panthers finished 10 strokes ahead of North Carolina, coached by Inman's brother, John Inman.
Kyle Stanley of Clemson finished on top of the leaderboard with a scorching eight-under par tournament. Stanley fired a 66 in the second round and added a 69 today to win the individual medal by five strokes.
Tennessee-Chattanooga won the event with an even-par tournament (291-283-290=864), five shots ahead of Tennessee.
Highlighting the week for the Panthers both Tobias Rosendahl and Allen John recorded eagles during the event.
Georgia State looks forward to Sept. 28 as they travel to North Falmout, Mass. for the Hartford Invitational.
