Play Suspended; Panthers T8th, Sjoholm T4th

EVANS, GA. ? With Saturday's second-round play suspended due to inclement weather, the 45th-ranked Georgia State University men's golf team sits tied for eighth in the Administaff Augusta State Invitational in Evans, Ga. after completing six holes of play.

Play at Retreat Golf Club was halted at 10:45 a.m. due to strong thunderstorms and persistent rain. Due to the delay, officials have decided to shorten the Administaff ASU Invitational's 54-hole format to just 36 holes, with second and final-round action resuming at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Through six holes, the Panthers scored four-under par on the day, moving into a tie for eighth place from their start in a tie in 12th. Only 12th-ranked Clemson began the second-round with a better performance, shooting five-under par through the sixth hole.

“We got off to a great start out there today,” said Georgia State head coach Matt Clark. “It's a shame we didn't get to finish, but we can't control Mother Nature.”

After a first-round score of 298 (+10), the Panthers currently sit six strokes over par and trail the event's leader, sixth-ranked UCLA, by 10 strokes. State trails the top-ranked team in the 18-team field, second-ranked Georgia, by just four strokes.

The Panthers currently lead five teams from the national top 50, including 10th-ranked South Carolina and 11th-ranked Tennessee.

Individual, senior Joel Sjoholm carded the Panthers best performance through six holes on Saturday by shooting three-under par to move into a tie for fourth-place overall.

Sjoholm, the nation's fourth-ranked player and top-ranked individual in the field, opened play on the back nine, carding a par and bogey before recovering to birdie the par-four 12th and 15th holes and post an eagle on the par-five 14th.

In addition to Sjoholm's three-under par showing, 70th-ranked Tom Sherreard carded two birdies and four pars through six holes to move into a tie for 18th.

Sophomore Maurice Jordan was at even par through six holes with one birdie, while freshman Brent Paul was one-over par on the day. Jordan is tied for 54th and Paul sits tied in 85th, while freshman Alex Castro is tied for 69th.

The Administaff ASU Invitational features six of the nation's top-10 teams and 12 from the top 40 in an 18-team field, with 90 individual competitors.
