Men?s Soccer Shutout 2-0 by George Mason

Atlanta, Ga. (October 25, 2008) The Georgia State men's soccer team was shut out 2-0 by Colonial Athletic Conference rival George Mason on Saturday night. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 4-7-4, 0-5-3 CAA with three games remaining in the season.

“I feel that we played the best team in the conference tonight,” remarked Georgia State coach Kerem Daser.  “This is definitely the best team I've seen all year.”
The Patriots managed to get on the board early in the first half.  In the 16th minute, senior forward Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe managed to break away from the pack and tear down the field to net the first Mason goal.

In the 22nd minute, Adjeman-Pamboe once again was successful for the Patriots with a little help by teammate Lucas Pardew in scoring the second Mason goal.
Despite a strong second half, the Panthers were not able to score.  The Panthers were outshot 18-9 in a physical game that totaled 17 fouls, three yellow cards, and a single red card.

“In the first half, we had a lot of errors and it was tough being down 2-0,” continued Daser. “But I feel that we stepped it up in the second half and created a lot of pressure and had a lot of chances.  The team was very committed and gave it their all tonight.”

Offensively, the Panthers were led by sophomore Joe Castaldo with two shots while Spenser Sumpter, Joey Syfert, Joe DeVito, Donald Kirkland, Eduardo Liza, Ayokunle Lumpkin, and Brett Cummins recorded a single shot a piece.

“The seniors really stepped it up for us, especially Filipe Carvalho in goal, Spenser Sumpter, Dathan Knott, and Joe DeVito.  All of them made big-time plays. Eduardo was outstanding and had a great game for us, as did Filipe in goal.  In the second half, Brett played well down the left side. We're excited for our game against William and Mary next week and just need to keep plugging away,” stated Daser.

Carvalho finished with a season-high eight saves for the night. He now has 63 saves in 1,440 minutes of play.

“I'd really like to thank all of the teams who came out for Youth Team Day tonight,” finished Daser. “It was great to see all of the young Georgia State fans out there."

Georgia State hits the pitch again next week for an away contest at William and Mary.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29th.  Scores and the game recap will be available on GeorgiaStateSports.com immediately after the conclusion of the match.
